Bespoke collaboration desk solution for the University of Manchester

As part of the new Ellen Wilkinson commons located in the Ellen Wilkinson building at the University of Manchester, there was a need to develop a bespoke collaboration desk.

The brief

A single desk for up to 8 people (in the room) connected through video conference screen/camera and sound bar.

The desk needs to be robust and reliable, it will be in daily use.

Charging and device management capabilities must be accessible for those sat around the desk.

We will use a 75” screen and would prefer the screen to be built into/connected to the desk.

The solution

A bespoke configuration of the Hive 8 desk. This included apertures for Extron control panel integration, power and charging options (USB A and C).

The configuration of the desk was adjusted to allow for the 75” screen. We would normally suggest 55 or 65” screens, therefore we had to adapt the design to allow those sat closest to the screen, the room to work in comfort without compromising access to the screen for the rest of the people around the desk.

The outcome

“Loxit have provided a unique bespoke solution for our conferencing needs and are always a pleasure to deal with. The Loxit Hive desks provide a high-quality, cost-effective solution with a high amount of customisation, which make them great for a wide range of installations.”

Jamie Wright, University of Manchester

It was a pleasure working alongside Loxit and the University on this project. The bespoke collaboration desk is a stunning centrepiece in the boardroom and really showcases the customisation of the Hive range. We look forward to working together on future projects.”
