As part of an on-going discussion with the ICT services team at grŵp Llandrillo-Menai about the new campuses in Rhyl and tŷ Menai, North Wales, we were asked to suggest solutions for the storage and management of over 650 chromebooks.
The challenge
Further investigation revealed that the college wanted these valuable resources to be easily accessed across the entire site. The plan was to store and use the chromebooks in smaller groups of between 20 or 30. The college were clear, the solution needed to be safe, durable and cost-effective.
Lapbank TL
The ICT services team selected a range of Lapbank™ TL trolleys including 1x TL10, 14x TL16, 2x TL20 and 3x TL32.
We asked Paul Millership why? “The quality of the products and the service keeps me coming back to Loxit. Their attention to detail in the design, construction and delivery really sets these trolley’s apart.”
Deliverables
“We needed robust storage for the devices, something that we could totally rely on from a security and protection point of view. The day-to-day user experience was also very important. These trolleys will be in use every day, across the entire campus, they have to be both robust and user friendly.”
With the Lapbank™ TL range meeting all of teams requirements. We asked Paul, what stood out about the Lapbank TL products? They are renowned for their robust design and in his words,
“The ability to load and unload from the top, rather than the side, makes a massive difference.”
The TL (Top Loading) feature provides users with full access to the chromebooks/laptops is at desk height, which is much more ergonomic, as there’s no bending down.
Weight saving design
The Lapbank™ TL trolley has been engineered to remove as much weight as possible.
“The trolleys are easy to move, even when they are fully loaded with kit. There are handles at each corner, which gives you lots of control.”
Security and peace of mind
“The overall security of these trolley’s is really important. The trolley’s we use have either 20 or 30 chromebooks inside, that is highly valuable kit that can very easily be moved. Thankfully the security has to be top-notch. I like the combination of metal structure and high-quality locks.”
User safety
“It’s one of the great things about the design, how easy they are move about. Knowing that the people using them are safe is paramount. All the transformers and cables are locked away, safe and secure, leaving the storage compartments safe and tidy.”
Environmentally aware
“When we are looking for solutions, every aspect of a product is considered. The environment and environmental impact are important aspects of our buying decisions. There are two things that I really like about the Lapbank™, there’s no cooling system needed for these trolley’s. The heat is managed through a series of ventilation slots. The trolley breathes – hot out, cool in – that’s neat. The other aspect that’s good is the construction – they are made of steel, it’s fully recyclable and Loxit will take the product back and recycle it at the end of life”.
Quality
“When you look at these trolley’s it’s clear that they are high quality from the outside – the finishes and attention to detail. For me it’s what you can’t see, the stuff on the inside that makes them stand out. The cable routing and management. The fact that the whole thing is powered via a single external mains input. Everything has been thought about.”
Outcomes
Paul Millership and the ICT services team successfully installed over 650 Chromebooks across a combination of Lapbank™ trolleys (using 1x TL10, 14x TL16, 2x TL20 and 3x TL32), ready for the new site to go live at the start of the Autumn term.
